Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro

Audi R8 Coupé

Racing meets serial production.
The Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro.

Audi has racing in its genes – and the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro has plenty of this genetic material. You can see this from every angle: from the powerful air intakes next to the wide single-frame grille at the front, through the sharp-edged side lines, which gives a sense of the mid-mounted engine, through to the raised diffuser at the rear. This 449kW Coupé marks the exact transition between the road and the race track.

What performance stands for

The V10 naturally aspirated engine, positioned between the axles, is at the heart of the Audi R8. In the performance version, this engine delivers 449kW. This results in the sprint to reach to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and increases the top speed to 331 km/h, while 560 Nm of torque is available at 6500 rpm. The spoiler on the rear of the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro is a fixed, clear external sign of this impressive performance of the unit.

The chassis: precision from every perspective

In addition to performance, racing is always about how precisely and how directly you can replicate it on the road. The chassis delivers a key part of the answer: dual aluminium wishbone axles guide all four wheels, while the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro features springs and dampers that are set up to be even tighter. With Audi magnetic ride, there is the option of having a damping system adapts the way the shock absorbers work to suit your driving style and the profile of the road – making changes every millisecond for each individual wheel. The re-tuned steering assistance passes on your steering even more directly and ensures exceptionally accurate feedback from the road. The optional dynamic steering adjusts the steering angle depending on your speed, thereby ensuring extremely agile handling. The standard carbon-fibre-reinforced ceramic brakes on the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro serve to reduce momentum.

Role model racing

The brother of the Audi R8, the Audi R8 LMS, has enjoyed success on prestigious circuits all over the world. So far, it has clinched four overall victories at the 24 Hours Nürburgring and the Total 24 Hours of Spa, and one in Dubai. Among other sprint and championship titles, it has already topped the leaderboard three times at the Bathurt 12 Hour. The closeness of the relationship between these high-performance sports vehicles can be seen in the number of identical parts: 50 percent compared to the GT3 version. For example, the V10 engine is almost identical in both vehicles. The series model even shares 60 percent of its parts with the sports car Audi R8 LMS GT4.

The design: the ideal line

Designed to be at the front of the pack: the new Audi R8, with its passenger space located close towards the front, its strongly accentuated wheel arches and its distinctive diffuser, borrows a host of design elements from racing and Audi's history of motor-racing. Deep horizontal lines lend the front a good deal of width and make the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro seem even more low-slung and sportier. The side is dominated by the characteristic blades, while the rear issues a final statement with the air outlet grille across its full width, along with the new, oval exhaust tailpipes in glossy black. They are further underscored by a large, fixed spoiler made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). Both the exterior trim package in matte titanium and the ascari blue body coluor are reserved exclusively for the Audi R8 Coupé V10 performance quattro. There is the option to replace the standard 19-inch wheels with redesigned milled 20-inch wheels, which are available in a dynamic design featuring 5 Vs, and a choice of three different surfaces.
