The V10 naturally aspirated engine, positioned between the axles, is at the heart of the Audi R8. In the performance version, this engine delivers 449kW. This results in the sprint to reach to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and increases the top speed to 331 km/h, while 560 Nm of torque is available at 6500 rpm.

V10 naturally aspirated engine: power comes from the heart

It will grab the attention of your eyes and ears – the character of the Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro is sharpened by unbridled power: the 5.2 FSI engine provides a maximum of 560 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. Thanks to the dry sump lubrication, the mid-positioned engine has a particularly low installation position. In turn, this has a major influence on how precisely you can steer the R8 in any situation. The special ignition sequence for the 10 cylinders finally turns into an utterly characteristic sound: a throaty hissing and roaring noise. It'll be the soundtrack of your driving, particularly if you have the top down. Along the way to its top speed, you will be accompanied by a newly developed 7-speed S-tronic transmission with narrow, sporty gears and an optimised quattro drive. This ensures optimum torque distribution at every point in time, giving you a decisive advantage in terms of traction, dynamics and driving safety.

The chassis: precision from every perspective

In addition to performance, racing is always about how precisely and how directly you can replicate it on the road. A key part of the answer is the chassis: double aluminium wishbone axles guide all four wheels of the Audi R8. The Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro has the driving dynamics system Audi drive select with four modes on board, as standard. With Audi magnetic ride, there is the option of having a damping system adapts the way the shock absorbers work to suit your driving style and the profile of the road – making changes every millisecond for each individual wheel. The re-tuned steering assistance passes on your steering even more directly and ensures exceptionally accurate feedback from the road. The optional dynamic steering adjusts the steering angle depending on your speed, thereby ensuring extremely agile handling. The standard carbon-fibre-reinforced ceramic brakes on the Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro serve to reduce momentum. They are exceptionally temperature-resistant, durable and, above all, even lighter.

Form follows fascination – the design

When closed, the soft top accentuates the athletic overall line of the Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro, while the open-top vehicle draws attention to the powerfully accented wheel arches. They evoke from Audi's racing history, as do the flat slits above the single-frame radiator grille. Deep horizontal lines lend the front a good deal of width and make the Audi R8 seem even more low-slung and sportier. The rear issues a final statement on the subject of sportiness with its raised diffusor and air outlet grille across its full width, along with the oval exhaust tailpipes in glossy black. There is the option to replace the standard 19-inch wheels with redesigned milled 20-inch wheels, which are available in a dynamic design featuring 5 Vs, and a choice of three different surfaces. New 20-inch summer and sports tyres are also available to offer particularly dynamic use of the Audi R8 and a further performance boost.

The interior: focus and elegance

Its proximity to racing is also noticeable in the interior of the Audi R8: directly in front of you, a large, contoured arc visually encompasses all the controls, imitating the driver-focused design of a monoposto car. The Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro has R8-specific sport seats on board, covered in Fine Nappa Leather and decorative elements in ultra-glossy carbon. Stainless steel pedals and footrest, as well as carbon inlays, are also standard.

The Audi virtual cockpit: keep everything in view

The concept of using the interior to enable the driver to focus as much as possible on the track is extended to the digital world with the standard combination of MMI navigation plus and the Audi virtual cockpit. The entire operating concept is designed so that you can control all the important functions without having to take your hands off the wheel or look away from the road. The 12.3-inch diagonal display of the Audi virtual cockpit focuses on a tachometer. Additional values are arranged around this, such as torque, g-forces, lap times, engine and transmission oil temperatures, and tyre pressure and temperature. The Audi R8 Spyder V10 performance quattro features an additional button that allows you to directly control the specially adjusted performance programs.
